I knew the inside of my beach house needed to be updated but I didn’t fully appreciate how much until Amy Bennett completely “transformed” all three levels of my house!
Amy coordinated and managed it all – from flooring, electrical, lighting, plumbing, carpentry, painting, bedding, furniture/art selections, etc. She met tight deadlines, took care of unexpected problems and stayed within budget. She found skilled craftsmen and put a remarkable team together who got the work done! As a long distance homeowner, I never had to worry because Amy took care of everything! Her attention to detail is incredible!
Most important, my house now has beautiful spaces. Amy’s choice of colors are fresh, natural and reflect the beauty of the ocean. She chose affordable furnishings yet, when she pulls these all together, it looks like a million bucks! Amy often used what was available in my house. She simply updated some of my furniture through paint. For example, what was a drab table is now a beautiful blue, whitewashed table with floating starfish! Everything in the house looks so fresh and clean! It’s a remarkable transformation. I would never have been able to do it without Amy!!!
When the house was finished, new photos were posted on the vacation home website. As a result of Amy’s changes, my house booked faster than it has for the past fifteen years!

Last year we decided to update our Outer Banks oceanfront home. We contacted Amy to help us plan. There would be several phases. We wanted beautiful and practical window treatments, a gorgeous dining room light fixture and lighting plans for the kitchen and dining room. Amelia Bennett’s talents as an exceptional, creative, residential designer are unsurpassed. She came to my rescue, after I bought a home in the Outer Banks of NC. Amy Bennett of White Silo is always observing the world, always making connections between the natural and the built environments. In addition to observing, Amy listens, picking up on seemingly small details in her conversations with clients. For example, when my husband and I wanted to paint the exterior of our home blue-green to complement the berries in our cedar trees, Amy worked with us to find an appealing color, holding up shade after shade to those berries. Although we sampled numerous shades, we decided, in the end, to go with classic white-on-white, which is just lovely. Amy didn’t abandon our notion, however, and found just the right shade of deep blue-green for our doors so that we could still suggest a connection between our home and our beautiful trees. When she heard our young daughter talking about how much she loves purple, Amy put us in touch with an artist who could paint a whimsical purple fish to hang near our side door. In this way, she included our daughter in the re-modeling project, too. In addition to finding the right color scheme for the exterior, Amy helped us choose our interior palette as we transformed our cottage into a rental property. We went with a neutral palette of coastal colors. This less-is-more approach created a soothing, open feel, and it made the rooms versatile in terms of furnishings. Amy also attended to the transition from rooms to porches, making it seamless and inviting. Part of this feel occurs in the entrance to the great room, where we turned a coat closet into a nook with a bench. Amy helped us select the paint colors for the bead board and the shelf, as well as the fabric and fabric color for the custom bench cushion. Amy Bennett is not only a talented designer who is committed to her projects, she is also a pleasure to work with. Indeed, we hope to work with her again.

After purchasing a beach house in the Isle of Palms, SC we determined we needed help decorating and furnishing the house. A neighbor recommended we talk to Amy. After speaking with Amy and seeing some of her work online I knew she would be a great fit for us. Based on our conversation she was quickly able to grasp our lifestyle and what we were trying to accomplish. We decided on a coastal theme. Once she started showing us various options we decided to have her help us with everything, including paint colors (inside and out), furnishings, kitchen and bathroom renovations, hardware, and lighting.
The design elements we decided on are simple and clean using natural colors and materials resulting in our perfect coastal retreat. After the interior painting was done (and before any furniture arrived), when we walked into the house we immediately felt relaxed and happy.
We had a lot of fun making decisions and Amy was good about providing us with various options without overwhelming us. She wasn’t afraid to express her opinion but it focused on what she thought we wanted not just what she liked. What was most reassuring about the process was that we had complete trust in her guidance and advice. This gave us confidence in making tough decisions without a lot of second guessing or hesitation. Ultimately, things came out even better than we pictured.
She has great contacts and a wealth of knowledge of where to shop and what products to use.
